"Blessed are all who wait for the Lord"
(Isaiah 30:18)
It’s hard to be patient. Many of us live in a constant hurry, rushing from one thing to the next. We plan our schedules down to the last few seconds, and when something goes wrong [like an unexpected traffic jam] we become even more impatient and irritable because things didn’t go exactly as planned. We forget to leave space for the unexpected. We convince ourselves that we’re in control, but we’re not.
When we live this way, it’s no surprise that we can become hasty with God, as well. Just as we expect our mobile order to be ready the moment we walk into Starbucks, we often expect God to respond on our timeline when we ask Him to act. But God doesn’t work on our time; He works on His. Today’s Psalm invites us to have the faith to wait on Him; to trust that we haven’t been forgotten, and that whatever desire we hold or plan we hope to discover, God will bring it about at just the right moment. “Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.”
What plan or desire have I been waiting for God to bring about in my life? Do I actually trust in God’s goodness and love for me? What are the ways I’ve seen God work already in my life?
Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
